Book Review : Breaking Dawn

When I purchased “Twilight” book series, I was not sure about completing it before June as I was reading many books simultaneously. One day in freeze February, my colleague asked me for Twilight book series and I rented it to her. She completed whole pack in 3 weeks (and that pushed me to pick-up this series). I surprised a lot because she never be a good reader. But she liked Twilight series so much and was so eager to read it completely. She is fond of Edward and according to Her, Edward is best lover compare to Jacob because Jacob is manipulative. “Who is best lover in Twilight?” was debatable topic on lunch table with colleague. According to one Male colleague, Jacob is best lover as he always helps Bella irrespective of Bella’s feeling towards him. So what you think, Jacob is best lover or Edward?

Story Behind Cover & Title (Source : “Wiki”) : Meyer described the cover as “extremely meaningful” and said that she was “really happy with how it turned out”.The cover is a metaphor for Bella’s progression throughout the entire series; she began as the physically weakest player on the board, the pawn, but at the end she becomes the strongest, the queen. The chessboard also hints at the conclusion of the novel “where the battle with the Volturi is one of wits and strategy, not physical violence.”

The title, Breaking Dawn, is a reference to the beginning of Bella’s life as a newborn vampire.Originally, Meyer wanted to title the book Forever Dawn, but she thought the name was very “cheesy”. Wanting to add a “sense of disaster” to the title to match the novel’s mood, she called it Breaking Dawn. Another reason for giving the book this particular title is that it matches the book’s plot, which centers around “a new awakening and a new day and there’s also a lot of problems inherent in it”.

Breaking Dawn is divided into three separate parts. First part and Third part are written on Bella’s perspective while Second part is written on Jacob’s perspective.

[First Part]
This is all about Bella’s marriage and honeymoon with Edward, which they spend on a private island – Isle Esme – owned by Carlisle who bought it for Esme. Two weeks into their honeymoon, Bella realizes that she is pregnant and her condition is progressing at an unnaturally accelerated rate. After contacting Carlisle, who confirms her pregnancy, she and Edward immediately return home to Forks. The fetus continues to develop with unnatural rapidity, and Edward concerned for Bella’s life and convinced that the fetus is going to kill her and urges her to have an abortion. However, Bella feels a connection with her unborn baby and refuses. Bella and Rosalie made a group to save unborn baby and Esme supported them.

[Second Part]
Jacob’s wolf pack plan to destroy it and kill Bella. Jacob protests against Sam’s decision, leaves the pack and forming his own pack. Later Seth and Leah Clearwater joins Jacob’s pack and considering him as Alpha and ready to take orders from him. The fetus in Bella’s body grows swiftly. Bella gives birth but she loses massive amounts of blood. In order to save Bella’s life, Edward changes her into a vampire by injecting his venom into her heart. Jacob thinking that Bella is dead and blaming Bella’s daughter Renesmee as the cause but he “imprints” on her.

[Third Part]
This part start with Bella’s painful transformation and finding herself changed into a vampire and enjoying her new life and abilities. However, the vampire Irina misidentifies Renesmee as an “immortal child”, a child who has been turned into a vampire. As “immortal children” are uncontrollable, creating them has been outlawed by the Volturi. After Irina presents her allegation to the Volturi, they plan to destroy Renesmee and the Cullens. In an attempt to survive, the Cullens gather other vampire clans from around the world to stand as witnesses and prove to the Volturi that Renesmee is not an immortal child but Half-vampire, Half-Human with some extra ordinary abilities. Upon confronting the gathered Cullen allies and witnesses, the Volturi discover that they have been misinformed and immediately execute Irina for her mistake. However, they remain undecided on whether Renesmee should be viewed as a threat to vampires’ secret existence. At that time, Alice and Jasper, who had left prior to the confrontation, return with a Mapuche called Nahuel, a 150-year-old vampire-human crossbreed like Renesmee. Nahuel demonstrates that the crossbreeds pose no threat, and the Volturi leave. Edward, Bella, and Renesmee return to their home in peace.

This book starts with Marriage and very soon shifting to romantic Honeymoon to Dispute over unborn baby. Jacob and Edward are best again in first and second part. They are unbelievable and  like two sides of coin.Bella’s first hunting and first meeting with her daughter Renesmee are amazingly described. You can feel emotion of Renesmee. Bella’s ability to shield all their side witnesses, wolf-pack and her own Cullen family against Volutri is fascinating. I was looking for fascinating end like whole store but end is expected.

Some quotes from Book:

  • I’d had more than my fair share of near-death experiences; it wasn’t something you ever really got used to.
  • It’s not right! I don’t want you to have to make sacrifices for me. I want to give you things, not take things away from you. I don’t want to steal your future.
  • Do not say the word fine. If you value my sanity, do not say that you are fine.
  • The only parents in the world who don’t need sleep, and our child already sleeps through the night.

You can read more quote here and here.

It’s well worth reading. Don’t Miss, Get it and read it.
